THE FISHING LINE WORKBENCH
Make room
for the right line.
Work out your backing from the reel specs you have. Keep the assumptions with the answer.
No account. No reel database. Your inputs stay in this browser.01 / BUILD YOUR SETUP

02 / YOUR CALCULATION
A clearer starting point.
Enter a capacity rating, your main line and a backing diameter.
Your estimate and a step-by-step calculation will appear here.
YOUR WHAT-IF RANGE
- Main-line-only capacity
- Fill assumption
- Baseline packing

Extra digits help reproduce the arithmetic. They are not measurement precision.
An estimate, not a measured spool fill. Line shape, tension and line lay can change the result. Check the fill while spooling.
03 / COMPARE BEFORE YOU SPOOL
Two setups. All the assumptions.
Setup A is a frozen snapshot. Change the inputs above and calculate to compare setup B. Both columns use the same displayed units.

A MODEL YOU CAN CHECK
Diameter makes
a squared difference.
A line twice as thick takes roughly four times the space per metre. We use the reel’s rated length and diameter as a capacity proxy, then subtract the space used by your main line.
Real spooling is messier. The optional range shows what your chosen diameter and packing assumptions would change. It is not a confidence interval.
